Training Program in Advanced Pediatric Life Support

For the past 20 years, with extensive experience treating over 50,000 patients, Hopkins' pediatric  physicians have organized a training program for international leaders in the area of pediatric life support.

The goal of the training program is to provide a comprehensive knowledge base in the evaluation and stabilization of critically ill and injured children and to train a cadre of health care professionals to become leaders and educators in the field of Advanced Pediatric Life Support ("APLS"). The APLS program gives pediatricians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, family practitioners, emergency medicine physicians, paramedics and other field providers a comprehensive review of pediatric life support algorithms in both critical medical problems and in trauma resuscitation.

The program's design reduces serious consequences of injury and severe medical illness by training pre-hospital and hospital personnel in the initial emergency management, using well rehearsed, systematic management protocols and techniques that utilize inexpensive, readily available, and reusable medical equipment.
